A single long strand of glass pearls from the 1950s, made to be worn doubled, tripled, or knotted low at the waist. Each bead is glass dipped again and again in a pearly coating until it glows, then strung on silk with a small knot between every pearl, so none rubs against the next. The strand has no clasp; it simply slips over the head. It is heavier than you expect and cool against the skin. Wind it twice around the neck with a black sweater, or let it fall long over a white shirt.
