A brooch from the 1930s, made in the shape of a stylized flower. Clear paste stones, some round and some cut as long batons, are set into a silver-tone mount so closely that almost no metal shows. The stones were set one by one, and each sits in its own small claw. It is bright without being loud, and it catches the light like frost on a winter morning. Pin it at the collar of a coat, at the shoulder of a dress, or in the folds of a silk scarf, where it will quietly hold everything together.
