A market basket from the 1960s, woven by hand from natural straw in a tight herringbone that keeps its shape. The handles are long strips of tan leather, stitched and riveted to the rim so they sit over the shoulder. It is light, it creaks a little when full, and it smells faintly of summer. Baskets like this were made to be used every day, and this one has been loved without being worn out. Fill it with flowers from the market, as someone has done here, or with a towel and a book for the beach.

Bags are measured at their widest points: width, height and depth, and the drop from the top of the handle or strap to the bag.
The condition scale
Excellent: worn or used with care; no flaws we can see.
Very good: light signs of age, each one named in the details and shown in the photos.
Good: visible wear or an old repair, named and photographed; still ready to wear or use.
Fair: clear flaws or a repair it needs, named and photographed; chosen for its beauty or its history.
