A hand mirror from about 1900, cast in brass and gilded, with a frame of rococo scrolls, shells, and leaves that curl up into a small crest. The oval glass is original and still clear at the center, with the soft spots of age at the edge that only old mirrors have. Where hands have held it for a century, the gilding has worn back to warm brass. It is heavier than a modern mirror and sits well in the hand. Keep it on a dressing table, or hang it by a ribbon where it can catch the morning light.
