Black mod mini dress with ivory pleat, 1960s

A mini dress from about 1967, when hemlines rose and shapes became clean and graphic. It is cut from black wool with a fine, smooth surface. The high collar stands close to the neck, the sleeves are long and narrow, and the skirt flares from a single quiet idea: an inverted pleat at the front, lined in ivory, that opens only when you move. Standing still, the dress is almost severe. Walking, it flashes a stripe of light. Wear it with low heels and short hair, or with dark tights and boots on a cold evening.
