The story

A short pleated skirt from the middle of the 1990s, in soft brown wool with the faint texture of felt. The pleats are pressed all the way around and stitched down for the first few inches below the waistband, so the skirt sits flat at the hips and swings from there. A plain waistband, a side zip, and nothing else to interrupt the line. The brown is warm, the color of milky coffee. It asks for autumn: a cream knit, knee socks or bare legs, and a long walk under the trees.
