The story

A pair of short gloves from the early 1950s, worked from cotton thread into an open mesh the color of terracotta. They are light and airy, made for warm afternoons when gloves were still part of getting dressed. The mesh stretches gently to the hand and then settles, and the cuff ends just past the wrist. Laid on a white table they look like two small pieces of lace. Wear them with a summer dress and a straw hat, or keep them in a drawer for a day that deserves them.
