The story

This camisole was made around 1905, to be worn over a corset and under a sheer summer blouse. Someone crocheted the yoke by hand in fine white cotton: rows of small leaves, a lattice between them, and a scalloped edge that follows the neckline. The lawn below is so light it lifts when you breathe on it. It is gathered softly at the waist, so it moves a little with you. More than a hundred years later the cotton is still bright and clean. Now it is lovely on its own, with a long linen skirt and bare arms, on a warm evening.

How we measure

Blouses and tops are measured flat, seam to seam, in inches with centimetres; double a flat width for the full round.

The condition scale

Excellent: worn or used with care; no flaws we can see.
Very good: light signs of age, each one named in the details and shown in the photos.
Good: visible wear or an old repair, named and photographed; still ready to wear or use.
Fair: clear flaws or a repair it needs, named and photographed; chosen for its beauty or its history.
